COMMUNITY LAND TRUSTS

Opportunities for Affordable Homeownership and Neighborhood Amenities

A Community Land Trust (CLT) is a community-based organization that owns, maintains, and develops land to the benefit of community members, often providing opportunities for residents to access affordable homeownership or needed neighborhood amenities. A CLT is governed by a board of directors often with representation of lease-holders, residents, and other stakeholders.

CLTs can be organized to give residents a say in how their community is developed. It can help with improve access to affordable housing and economic development practices.

Example: Charm City Land Trust and North East Housing Initiative.
